The Affordable Care Act amended the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to require most businesses to provide mandatory breaks for nursing mothers to feed their children. The law requires the employer to provide "reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for one year after the child’s birth each time such employee has need to express the milk."All employers covered under the FLSA are required to provide break time for nursing mothers. An exemption exists if the company has fewer than 50 employees and can prove that compliance would impose undue hardship.
