The Maine Human Rights Act - Equal Employment Rights is a labor law posters poster by the Maine Department Of Labor. This is an optional poster, so while it is recommended that you post this if it is relevant to your employees, you are not required to by the Department Of Labor.

This poster describes the right that employees and potential employees have to be free from any kind of discrimination and who to contact should an employee or potential employee has been discriminated against. Any form of retaliation against this law is prohibited under the Maine Human Rights Act.

The Maine Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, religion, ancestry or national origin. The Maine Human Rights Act also prohibits discrimin ation because of filing a claim or asserting a right against a prior employer under the Workers’ Compensation Act or retaliation under the Whistleblowers’ Protection Act. EQUAL EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS The opportunity for an individual to secure employment witho ut discrimination because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, age, ancestry or national origin is a civil right. UNLAWFUL EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION It is unlawful employment discrimination for any employer, b ecause of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, religion, ancestry or national origin, or because of an individual’s previous asserti on of a claim or right against a prior employer under the Workers’ Compensation Act, or because of previous actions taken that are protected under the Whistleblowers’ Protection Act, to: Fail or refuse to hire or otherwise discriminate against an applicant for employment. Discharge an employee or discriminate with t he respect to hire, tenure, promotion, transfer, compensation, terms, conditions or privileges of employment. Retaliate against a person who has filed a charge of discrimination, participated in a discrimination proceeding, or opposed a violation of th e Maine Human Rights Act.
